PROCESSING PEACE
Equity. Democracy. Gender.
Peace often appears as an abstract concept, however, the exhibition at the Frauenmuseum Hittisau understands it not as a fixed state, it invites visitors to reflect on their own perspectives and engage actively. The spaces becomes a site of negotiation.
Three circular, central elements function as the heart of the exhibition, fostering a sense of safety and encourage open dialogue. Surrounding these focal points is a modular landscape of informational and interpretive elements arranged like satellites: here, visitors gather knowledge before returning to the circle, a metaphor for exchange, reflection, and collective thinking.
The design addresses diverse needs with a dedicated kids areas, a reading space, varied seating, and clear, inclusive wayfinding. Fly with Frida! Frida the dove of peace, invites children and families to explore the exhibition in a playful way at 5 different interactive stops.
A highlight is the exhibition space overlooking the forest: “Thinking Peace with a View” evokes nature as a place for reflection and the fragile balance that peace requires.
Shades of blue and off-white create a sense of calm, while cloud forms shift from serene to stormy, reflecting the ambivalence of peace.
The exhibition brings together scenography, graphic design, and interpretation into a spatial narrative that makes peace visible as a collective task: polyphonic, accessible, conceived with sustainability in mind. Materiality and sustainability are key, using recycled ReFelt panels and a reusable wooden kit of parts.
